Dorset Police HQ Roof Overclad – Live Operational Site

TRS carried out a major insulated metal overclad at Dorset Police Headquarters. The works covered the PSU Hall main roof, curved high-level eaves, lower-level roofs and stores areas. The project was delivered on a fully operational police station, requiring careful coordination around ongoing drill training and shooting practice. The finished roof also provided a suitable base for the subsequent installation of photovoltaic panels.

The existing roof required a long-term solution that avoided a full strip-out while improving thermal performance and weathertightness. The presence of curved eaves made the overclad particularly complex. In addition, the building remained fully operational throughout, with training activities and range use continuing on site. Access, noise, and sequencing all had to be managed carefully to avoid disruption to police operations.

An insulated overclad system using Garland R-Mer Clad 32/100 profiled sheeting was specified. A new bar and bracket system was installed with appropriate depths of insulation (220 mm on the main roof areas and 120 mm on the lower roofs). Existing rooflights were upgraded with new liner panels and 10 mm clear-therm GRP cores. New Unifold Ampteam gutters were installed, and the difficult curved eaves were carefully overclad to maintain the original building form while delivering a weathertight, insulated finish.

The site remained a live police headquarters throughout the project. Works were sequenced to accommodate drill training and shooting practice, with clear communication and flexible programming. The overclad approach allowed the existing roof to remain in place as a working deck, reducing the risk of water ingress and minimising disruption to the day-to-day running of the station.
