Faith Church Newport – Metal Roof Overclad and Thermal Upgrade

TRS carried out a full roof refurbishment at Faith Church in Newport, covering approximately 800 m² including 50 m² of flat roof works. The existing flat roof had been failing for some time, with constant leaks, saturated insulation and growing concerns over the condition of the structural deck. The completed metal overclad has given the building a thermally improved, fully waterproof roof with a clean, modern appearance, backed by a Garland 20-year single-point guarantee.

Water had been getting into the building through the existing roof, and the insulation beneath it was soaking wet. Before any new system could be fixed, the structural deck needed careful assessment to make sure it could take the new fixings. Access and detailing around the existing glazing units added a further layer of complexity. The client wanted a long-term solution that would stop the water ingress for good, raise the thermal performance of the building and improve how the roof looked.

We stripped the existing flat roof covering back to the structural deck and carried out pull-out tests to confirm the deck was suitable to receive the new fixings. With that confirmed, new bar and brackets were installed into the deck to carry the metal system. 280 mm of insulation was then fitted, bringing the roof up to a U-value of 0.18.

New Raintite gutters were built in as part of the metal system, and the existing glazing units were overclad with new GRP rooflights so the building kept its natural light. A plastisol coated outer roof sheet, installed to the Garland specification, completed the system and secured the Garland 20-year guarantee.

The works began with stripping the failing flat roof covering back to the structural deck, followed by pull-out tests to verify the strength of the deck. Once the deck was proven, we installed new bar and brackets and fitted 280 mm of insulation to reach a U-value of 0.18.

We then installed the new Raintite gutters, overclad the existing glazing units with GRP rooflights and fixed the new plastisol coated outer sheets. Throughout, the works were coordinated so that the client was left with a complete, weathertight and thermally upgraded roof.

Approximately 800 m² of roof has been successfully refurbished, and the constant leaks that had troubled the building are gone. Thermal performance has been significantly improved, with the roof now achieving a U-value of 0.18. The new Raintite gutters and GRP rooflights complete a clean, modern finish across the whole roof.

The client has been issued with a Garland 20-year guarantee, and the building is now fully waterproof and ready for long-term use.
