Perdiswell Leisure Centre
Roof Refurbishment
In summer 2025, TRS completed a £230,000 refurbishment of approximately 1,400m² of main hall roofing at Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester. Delivered over a 10-week programme, the project upgraded the existing reinforced bituminous membrane roof while the leisure centre remained fully operational.

The Challenge
The main hall was covered by an existing reinforced bituminous membrane (RBM) roof system that had reached the end of its serviceable life and required full refurbishment. The main hall formed part of an active leisure centre that needed to continue operating throughout the refurbishment, so the works had to be delivered without closing the building. The client also wanted the new build up to improve thermal performance and to be ready to accept a future solar PV installation.
The Solution
The existing reinforced bituminous membrane roof was refurbished in accordance with the Garland StressPly Flex high performance roofing specification. The new build up incorporated a vapour control layer, upgraded insulation designed to achieve a target U-value of 0.18 W/m²K, and a robust two layer torch applied felt waterproofing system.
The works also included the installation of new roof outlets and all associated detailing required to provide a complete, durable waterproofing solution.
What we did
- Strip existing reinforced bituminous membrane roof covering
- Install new vapour control layer
- Upgrade insulation to achieve a target U-value of 0.18 W/m²K
- Install Garland StressPly Flex two-layer torch-applied felt system
- Install new roof outlets and perimeter cappings
- Complete associated detailing and terminations
Keeping the leisure centre operational
The leisure centre remained fully operational throughout the 10-week programme, completed in summer 2025. TRS maintained secure separation between the works and building users through site hoarding, controlled scaffold access and carefully managed working areas, so that public use of the main hall continued alongside the refurbishment.
Outcomes & guarantee
TRS completed the roof refurbishment within the planned 10-week programme while the leisure centre remained operational. The completed system improved the roof's waterproofing and thermal performance and was prepared to accommodate a future solar PV installation as part of the client's wider sustainability plans.
On completion, Garland issued a 25-year single-point guarantee covering the design, materials and workmanship.
