Pool Academy Roof Overclad and Refurbishment – Redruth

TRS carried out the roofing works at Pool Academy in Redruth as part of the school’s capital projects programme. The works covered the overcladding of the existing pitched metal roofs together with the strip and replacement of approximately 280 m² of flat roof using a Garland system. The finished roofs were left weathertight and thermally upgraded, with the Garland guarantees handed over on completion.

The existing metal roofs required a long-term solution that avoided a full strip-out where possible while still improving appearance and performance. A central flat roof area which was difficult to get to also needed full replacement. The works had to be completed in the summer school holidays under a tight schedule to ensure the site was ready and safe for when the children returned to school. Access, sequencing and coordination with other packages were all important.

An overclad approach was used on the main pitched metal roofs. New profiled metal sheeting was installed over the existing covering, together with associated soffits, fascia overcladding and new guttering. On the flat roof areas approximately 280 m² was stripped and replaced with a high-performance Garland felt system. With the sign-off and reporting from Garland at the end of the project, the client was handed the guarantees.

The majority of the works had to be completed during the summer school holidays. This left a limited window to overclad the pitched roofs, strip and replace the flat roof areas, and finish all detailing before the pupils returned. Careful planning of labour, materials and sequencing was essential. Daily progress was monitored closely so that any issues could be resolved quickly and the site handed back in a safe and complete condition at the end of the holiday period.
