Yeo Moor School Flat Roof Refurbishment – Clevedon
Insulated Cut-to-Fall Felt System Across Approximately 20 Roof Areas
TRS carried out a major flat roof refurbishment at Yeo Moor School in Clevedon. The project covered approximately 20 separate roof areas and involved the complete removal of the existing single-ply membrane, the installation of a new insulated cut-to-fall felt system, and the redesign of fascia, window and abutment details. The school remained fully operational throughout, with works carefully phased across term time and the summer break.

Existing condition
The existing single-ply roofs had reached the end of their serviceable life. Falls were inadequate in places, details at windows, fascias and abutments needed redesigning, and the school could not close. The work had to be delivered safely around pupils, staff and visitors, with clear segregation and minimal disruption to the daily life of the school.
Selected system
A new insulated cut-to-fall felt system was specified using a Garland system. This allowed proper falls to be created, insulation levels to be upgraded, and all critical details to be redesigned and rebuilt. New rooflights were incorporated as part of the works to improve natural light and the finished appearance of the roofs.
Scope of work
- Removed the existing single-ply membrane across approximately 20 roof areas
- Installed a new insulated cut-to-fall system to create correct falls
- Upgraded thermal insulation
- Redesigned and rebuilt fascia, window and abutment details
- Installed new rooflights
- Completed all associated flashings and weathering details
- Phased the works carefully between term time and the summer holiday period
Keeping the school operational
The project was planned so that the school could remain fully open. Work areas were segregated, safeguarding requirements were followed at all times, and communication with the school was maintained throughout. TRS is experienced in delivering roofing projects on live education sites and applied the same approach here. The works were completed on time and to budget.
Outcome
- 20 separate flat roof areas fully refurbished
- New insulated cut-to-fall felt system with correct falls
- Upgraded thermal performance
- Redesigned and improved detailing at windows, fascias and abutments
- New rooflights providing better natural light
- School remained fully operational throughout the project
- 25-year Garland single-point guarantee issued on completion
